The Holman's welcomed over 50 guests to the Mallie's Friends Research Legacy celebration. The evening's event announced the launch, in Spring 2011, of the first of two $55,000 Research Fellowships in Mallie's honor. Collectively, Mallie's Friends donated and raised $97,000 over the past three years to support the mission of expediting research in the hopes of finding a cure and putting an end to Mallie's pain and suffering. Special guest speakers, including Tracy Hart -- CEO, OI Foundation, Dr. Michael Bober, Geneticist duPont Hospital, and Dr. Richard Kruse, orthopedic surgeon duPont Hospital, gave heartfelt speeches describing their journey over the past 7 years with Mallie. Speeches concluded with Greg Holman thanking donors and describing the approach he and Leigh used to raise a child with OI. Greg shared his fears of pushing Mallie to her limits and the toll it took on her physically and the family emotionally. In the end, Greg credits Mallie's triumph over adversity, her unbreakable spirit and the love, support and generosity of Mallie's Friends as the reasons for hope for an extraordinarily bright future for his daughter.
